CDRAMA REVIEW|| A LOVE SO BEAUTIFUL

Welcome to another Chinese drama review!

Okay, so maybe I have taken a week off work and education to recuperate. And I have filled my time watching Asian dramas and movies. I forgot to mention in my last drama review, the place I watch these dramas. Essentially I have four main platforms on which I watch Asian dramas. Netflix has a variety of dramas, while it might not be a lot, for me, since I have watched most of them. Another is Rakuten Viki, just like Netflix, it is a subscription service and I don’t have the funds to pay for two platforms at once. However, they do have a lot of dramas from China, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, and Korea. You can also watch and download on Dramacool and KissAsian, those platforms are lifesavers. Most importantly, Youtube, most of the Chinese dramas I have been able to watch recently have been on there. Including this drama.

let’s get into it…

Chen Xiaoxi and Jiang Chen are classmates at Chenxi Secondary School and have been neighbors since kindergarten. Chen Xiaoxi, a cheerful girl who doesn’t study much, is expressive about her admiration towards Jiang Chen, a popular student known for his good looks and high grades. However, Jiang Chen is very distant and indifferent towards people because of his father’s early death. Together with their friends—the funny yet dirty-minded Lu Yang, athletic but blunt Lin Jingxiao, and joyful national swimmer Wu Bosong—Chen Xiaoxi and Jiang Chen prepare for their university entry examination, during their journey through secondary school and towards adulthood.

Review

Let me start by expressing my annoyance with the abrupt ending. I am so used to Chinese dramas having 40 episodes.  I don’t like the way it ended. However, this was a solid drama. While the smart boy, dumb girl trope has been overused at this point. There is no overestimating the love I have for them. This drama is very simple but you need the dedication to seat through the first few episodes to really like it. Here we follow Xiaoxi who is a struggling student in her first year in high school. She has her eyes set on Chen who is her neighbor and classmate. She confesses her love for him and he turns her down but we slowly see a change in him. He begins to view her a bit differently and slower he falls for her charms. But of course, we needed a love triangle, Bosong is also Xiaoxi friend from their earlier years. He joins their class and he begins to express his love for Xiaoxi. Making Chen extremely jealous. Years pass and they are about to go to college, Xiaoxi doesn’t make it in while Chen does. This is the first test of their relationship.

I really don’t want to spoil this drama because while most of it was cringey, there was a subtle charm in it.

Little spoiler

He becomes a doctor and this puts a strain on their relationship

Rating

I gave this drama 7.2 out of 10 stars

Thanks for reading
