Hello!!!
Welcome to another struggling reader’s post. I have a pathological disease that involves me acquiring more books when I have not even started or finished the ones I have. Therefore I decided to try this tag in hopes that it would help me narrow down my TBR. For TRY A CHAPTER #1, I read the first chapter of the unread books I have in my TBR for the month of MAY. For transparency, I have included a few affiliate links in this post, but only for books that I am enjoying (not here to gas you up)
Check out my MAY TBR
Most of the books in my MAY TBR are the ones I carried over from APRIL
The Honey-Don’t List by Christina Lauren
I have read a lot of books by this powerful writing duo and I have loved every of their book that I have read. This book however is just so slow. Having read the first two chapters, I realize that I am more invested in the Tripps than in the main characters. The bickering and the constant pretense between Melissa and Russell are all I need in this book. So far there is nothing really interesting about James and Carey for me to carry on with this book, but they are about to go on a tour so that I am anticipating that this book picks up. The writing is exquisite as always. Hopefully, I will finish this book before the end of the month.
This is the 3rd book in the filthy rich Americans series and as much as I find the first two books controversial and morally questionable, I find myself very invested in the story and I want to know how the story progresses. Having read the first two chapters in this book, I have decided not to continue with the series, for now, I do know that my curiosity would not allow me to leave the series uncompleted but I don’t think I will be continuing anytime soon.
The Betrothed by Kiera Cass
I loved the Selection series and it is one of my guilty pleasure books to reread. But after reading more than the first chapter of this book, it fell very flat and I was not interested in the main character at all. she seemed a little too self-righteous and self-pitying and I was not interested at all. The plot wasn’t interesting and the tone of writing seemed to have changed. There was no chemistry whatsoever between the main characters. I have removed this from my TBR list
My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell
After reading the first chapter, I just could not put this book down, I love it, I am still currently reading this book and I have a feeling that this would be on the list of my favorite book of all time. In this book, we go back and forth between 2000 and 2017 and we follow Vanessa who was sexually assaulted when she was a teenager by her teacher. She is still struggling with coming to terms that she was assaulted as she feels like she gave her consent. I have never really read a book that dealt with the topic of sexual assault from this angle.
I am loving this book and the way it is written. I can’t wait to finish this book.
Thanks for reading.
