I am a bit late posting this. I have just had such a ridiculous week and I need to actually take the time to write this review because I really loved it and the message it sends to young children. Thanks to Hear Our Voice Tours for making this book available to me. Let’s just get into the review!
Review
There is not much to say about this book because it is an informative one. It teaches young children the Alphabet using important Black figures in politics and society. Including important empowering words about physical attributes associated with the Black race. I do think that this is a book that young children should have regardless of their race. I believe that this might be a good conversation starter for parents that are trying to teach their children about race. I am of the opinion that lots of racial tension and hostility stem from misunderstanding and lack of prior knowledge. So if you want to talk to children about race and addition Black children about loving themselves. Then look no further with this book.
I wish I had something like this book when I was younger and learning the alphabet. A particular alphabet that stood out to me was ‘S’ which was associated with ‘SOUL’ and it said to “NEVER DIMINISH YOUR SHINE so that others shine brighter. Be such a VIBRANT SOUL that others crave your light”. I loved this. Children and even adults need to remember not to dim their light to satisfy others.
